Dan Cardinal

Downtown Saskatoon, Oct. 18, 2019 – Many guests knew Dan Cardinal as their first point of contact while visiting Saskatoon, or that warm greeting as they entered for a local event at the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel. He reveled in the opportunities to interact with guests, who, in short-order, became friends, no matter how famous, local – or both – they were. 1969 – Fresh into the working world, Dan began his relationship with what would become a life-long employer. Initially in a work-placement arrangement, as a maintenance worker with the Sheraton, he quickly realized he wanted to work with people.

1975 – With his sights on the front door, Dan excitedly transferred to the role of Bellman, where his gift of gab flourished.

2004 – While fellow employees moved on with hurry, Dan proudly accepted a promotion to Bell Captain, where he humbly appreciated the connection to guests. In 2013, the job title changed to Assistant Guest Services Supervisor.

2016 – Overwhelmed by his numerous awards in appreciation of his work, Dan was prestigiously honoured as Employee of the Year by Saskatchewan Tourism, Starwood Hotels and Properties of North America, and the Tourism Industry Association of Canada. Dan asserts he couldn’t have done it without the guests he looks after and his colleagues.

2019 – Dan proudly remained in the role until his retirement – 50 dedicated and loyal years, later. He was proud to have worked with all three generations of the Lier-family ownership, and he chuckled through his retirement speech to calculate that he had outlasted 9 Hotel General Managers!

Serving these 50 years with the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel, Dan proudly made a vibrant career of looking after people – a laudable and purposeful one, with a single employer. This retired Guest Service Agent credits the longevity of his urban vocation to pride, passion, and respect; he recommends these make any job, and any part of life a simple breeze.
