Hello, My name is Sydney, my fiance Casey and I are the owners of The Purrfect Cup Cat Cafe. I have my bachelor’s degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology while Casey is working on a bachelor’s of Psychology and a bachelor’s of Criminal Justice. Our love of cats and a desire to help homeless animals is what drove us to open The Purrfect Cup Cat Café. We are focused on helping animals find loving homes through our adoption options with the café. It is also a great space to enjoy some kitty time if you’re in a situation where owning a feline friend isn’t an option.
Originally, our options for opening the cat cafe were limited. We had spoken with zoning and bylaws and were told light industrial was the only zone we could be in. After 2 years of COVID-19 and trying to plan the best location, the zoning department re-interpreted the bylaws for us and told us we could in fact be Downtown. We were thrilled! Not only does Downtown have great foot traffic in the summer months with our river trails, shopping boutiques and other amenities, but it’s a central and accessible location.
Our goal for the cat cafe, and other future business ideas, would be to create and be a part of a hub where visitors could plan an entire afternoon with things to do Downtown. Rather than people coming for one specific thing, they could check out the Scotiabank Cineplex for a matinee, then head over to the cat cafe for a coffee and kitty cuddles, and end their day either shopping or at one of Downtown’s many restaurants for dinner and drinks.
When not working we love taking walks on the river trails with a stop at the Bus Stop Refreshments for some milkshakes and hot dogs! We also love exploring Downtown looking for new and fun things to do like the Escape Room and Axe Throwing, as well as enjoying some of Downtown’s rooftop patios at various pubs and restaurants.
Downtown Saskatoon is a great opportunity for new businesses to bring something new and fresh to the city. I appreciate that our trails by the river and the river itself bring life to the core, it is perfect for our local shops and entertainment to grow along and can create a hub of fun!
