Ever make weekend plans with someone only to realize how increasingly unclear those “plans” really are the closer the date approaches? You start to do the back and forth “what do you feel like doing?” thing and seem to get nowhere closer to deciding on said “plans” than you were in the first place. It’s tricky; you don’t want to suggest something the other person won’t like, and you don’t want the pressure of being the one to have to line everything up, either–it’s stressful! We get it. We got you.

Let’s face it–planning a fun day can be, well, less than fun. Not that there’s a shortage of things to do in this city–there’s almost something fun and interesting to everywhere you look, but that’s part of the problem, isn’t it? Narrowing down the options is the challenging part. You want to balance the atmosphere of the activities/spots you hit, and you want to make sure everything’s within a reasonable proximity so you’re not driving across the city the whole day. But before you cancel your “plans”, here’s a solution: head into Downtown Saskatoon. Not to brag, but that’s the first, easy step in making great plans.

Or better yet, let us do the planning for you. Here’s your itinerary for a great–food and beverage-heavy–day and night on the town!

1.) Head to Poached Breakfast Bistro for a relaxed, delectably delicious brunch in the heart of Downtown Saskatoon. This restaurant has a cozy vibe, great decor, and–did we mention?–one of the absolute best breakfasts in YXE.

2. Didn’t get your java fix at Poached? Stroll down to the Saskatchewan-inspired Honey Bun Café and treat yourself to a Honey Latte or a London Fog. Take a cup to go, or take a seat inside. Trust us–it’s the perfect atmosphere to relax and catch up.

3. By now, you’re probably thirsty and maybe even a little ‘snacky’. Metric Garden Lounge on the East side of the iconic Bessborough Hotel has a swanky view of lush gardens overlooking the South Saskatchewan River, a stacked cocktail menu, and appies to die for.

And really…Prosecco on a patio–does it get any better than that?

4. It’s now time to head over to Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan

Soak in summer in one of Saskatoon’s favourite and authentic ways–live theatre on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River. Shakespeare’s greatest works are portrayed by some of Saskatchewan’s finest actors in the most entertaining way possible. 2018 features performances include Hamlet and The Merry Wives of Windsor. Or, visit their Community Stage for a great selection of free events including play readings, spoken word poetry, bands, dancers, and more.

Visit their website for performance schedule and ticket info.

5. You’re probably hungry again. Get back on 2nd Avenue and stop by Thirteen Pies Pizza + Bar –a new underground-style pizza and beer joint founded by the owners of the popular DTNYXE hot spot, Congress Beer House.  Seriously, these are some of the best New York-style pies that will ever touch your lips. They also have fantastic cocktails, might we add. A great way to finish off a fun day Downtown!
