Saskatoon Council Votes in Favour of Downtown Shelter

On Wednesday, September 25th, the City Council voted 7-4 to move ahead with a temporary shelter at 210 Pacific Avenue.

The shelter will include space for 30 to 40 beds and some private rooms, showers, bathrooms, a kitchen, and office space, with proximity to other services. The location will also see the addition of a chain-link fence around the building, ensuring the only access would come from Ontario Avenue. A timeline for a January 1st opening is expected.

There will also be coordinated communications and information sharing between The Mustard Seed, Saskatoon Police and the Saskatoon Fire Department to be proactive before issues arise. The Police and Fire services would also provide safety and security support for The Mustard Seed while they operate this new shelter.
