Hello, my name is Troy Gronsdahl. I am the Curator of Performance and Public Practice at Remai Modern. I curate artist projects and exhibitions that highlight the ways artists work with performance, movement, sound, music, film and video. Many projects directly engage members of the community during the creative process or in the realization of the artwork.

My most recent project is an exhibition by artist Tino Sehgal. He is one of the most significant artists working in the realm of live art and his works at the museum feature movement, voice, structured conversation and play. The exhibition includes three live artworks presented continuously during opening hours for the duration of the exhibition. A project of this scale requires many contributors: there are approximately 20 local people and 600 children who have been engaged in the exhibition. At any time you can pop into the museum and encounter his work or even participate in the project!

I am really happy that the museum was built Downtown. It has an amazing location. We’re just steps away from the river, green space and walking paths and in the other direction, you can find great places to eat, drink and socialize.

During the summer months, I enjoy the picnic tables and makeshift patios in the Downtown core as restaurants and bars expand into outdoor spaces. I realize this increased as a response to the pandemic health measures, but it would be great to find a way to support and foster a fun outdoor dining culture that could grow in size as well as potentially year-round.

I love Saskatoon because it punches above its weight class. Although we are a small city, with many of the amenities of a bigger centre. We have a great music and culture scene, top-notch restaurants, parks and green space. There are also plenty of opportunities to get involved in things and build something new.
