Persephone Theatre

Hello everyone, Persephone Theatre creates world-class, professional theatre at the Remai Arts Centre. We are celebrating our 50th Anniversary season this year! We produce a wide range of plays of all genres and styles, with local artists and some of the top talent from across the country. Regardless of your age or interests, we have a perfect show to entertain you! We also run a theatre school for ages 4 and up, who are interested in learning the theatrical arts! We are excited to introduce ourselves to our neighbours! Heather Cant and Breanne Harmon are the Executive Leadership at Persephone, and we are excited to share a bit more about us.

Originally from Moose Jaw, Heather has both family and creative ties to the community but had been living in other provinces since she was a teenager, prior to her joining the Persephone team. Heather is a multi-faceted theatre artist who has worked as a director, actor, playwright, dramaturg, and producer. She spent many years living in Vancouver, working as an actor and producer, and several years in Kamloops working as the Associate Artistic Director of Western Canada Theatre, and running Project X Theatre. Heather loves baking desserts and roller-skating along the amazing river trails in the city. She and her French bulldog, Whimsy, are happy to be making their home now in Saskatoon for the last three years as part of the vibrant arts community here.

Breanne is still fairly new to Saskatoon, having now lived here for two years. Originally from British Columbia, Breanne made her home in Saskatoon with her husband, two children and added a cat to the family last year. Breanne grew up surrounded by the arts, both performing and visual, and has been working in Theatre for more than a decade and a half, first as a Stage Manager, moving into arts administration almost ten years ago. Breanne has worked as General Manager at Green Thumb Theatre, and is thrilled to call Saskatoon home, as the Executive Director at Saskatoon’s premiere theatre, Persephone. Her favourite local activity is buying a Dol Whip and talking a family walk around the river.

Persephone has had many homes in Saskatoon over the years but in 2007 we were lucky enough to move into our current home – the Remai Arts Centre – at River Landing. Our theatre is purpose-built, which is pretty special for us, and allows us to create some amazing theatre. We love being in the heart of Downtown, right alongside the river. It’s a perfect spot to grab dinner at one of the many nearby eateries, and then come and see a show!

Downtown Saskatoon carries such artistic vibrancy, and Persephone is so fortunate to be right in the hub at River Landing. We look forward to a stronger return of foot traffic along the river, as well as new-to-us patrons experiencing all that Persephone has to offer!
