Hello, my name is Darryl Bazylak and I work at the Métis Nation Saskatchewan Government as a Deputy Chief of Programs and Services. In my role, I work with many amazing people across a variety of portfolio areas. I was born and raised in Saskatoon and over the course of my career I have worked nearly 15 years in our Downtown.
Working at 310 20th Street is particularly special to me because the street, which runs partly through Downtown, is where several hallmark moments in my life occurred: my birth, parents’ wedding, and their passing. Growing up I recall many bus trips Downtown to visit the movie theatre or shop at Midtown Plaza.
MN-S is a growing government. With the growth comes the requirement for more office space for our public service teams. MN-S recently purchased the Vienna Building adjacent to our current office at 310 20th Street East. The Downtown footprint will house approximately 180 employees and elected officials. In addition, the approximately 140 public service employees located around the province will periodically flow through the Downtown office.
Saskatoon’s Downtown offers so many great amenities such as shopping, restaurants and “watering holes”. My family and I regularly take advantage of our Downtown establishments. Some highlights are winding through the Downtown streets running the Saskatchewan Marathon, enjoying Rock the River, the Jazz Festival and Taste of Saskatchewan when it was running.
I love the beauty of our city, particularly the riverbank through each season. The colours are incredible. What makes our city special is how we treat those visiting us from abroad. I have had many conversations Downtown with travellers. I ask them how they are enjoying their time in our city. They often say they love it because everyone is so friendly. This fills me with pride because Saskatoon is my home and I want others to feel welcome in my…our home.
