Jamaican Food Basket

Hello, my name is Sandra, my husband Donovan and I started Jamaica Food Basket in 2017 with operational assistance from our son, Mikhail.  We moved from Jamaica to Saskatoon in 2016 under the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program. We opened the business to try and share as much of the Jamaican culture as we could in the form of a restaurant and official lounge with a bit of retail.  The restaurant offers warm meals such as Oxtail, Curry Goat, and Jerk Chicken.  There are also alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages (both Canadian and imported).  Interested individuals also have the option of hosting an event at the restaurant at no charge with special conditions.  We can also cater for your special occasion, whether it’s a backyard family event or another venue of your choice.

On the retail side, we sell seasonings, spices, and other items that are used in the restaurant such as Jerk Seasoning, All-Purpose Seasoning, Curry Powder, Syrups, Cheese, Crushed Peppers, Frozen Scotch Bonnet Peppers, and more.  Seasonal fresh produce is also imported periodically from Jamaica throughout the year. Items like Mangos, Naseberry, Green Bananas, Yams, and Sweet Potatoes.

Wherever in the world you go, downtown is always the entertainment center, providing different cuisine and entertainment choices for residents and visitors. Therefore, choosing downtown was inevitable for us to be in the ‘heart’ of the entertainment district. With this location, we hope to see our business grow, having more customers, and making more in-house sales.  It would also be great to see downtown buzzing with more new people, new developments, and operating as the official “event and entertainment district” of Saskatoon.

When we are not working, we try to go to other restaurants and entertainment spots in the city.  We also make visits to the Midtown Mall to browse stores or pick up items we do not get the time to buy otherwise.

Saskatoon is very special to us as this is where we have called home since we arrived in Canada.  Saskatoon will always have a special place in our hearts, as the city that has embraced us.
