Since 2012, Community Support Officers have patrolled the three Business Improvement Districts (BIDS) of Downtown, Riversdale and Broadway. In 2024, the management of the Community Support Program was transferred over to the Saskatoon Fire Department and now operates as the Fire Community Support (FCS) team.
The goal of the FCS program is to connect and build relationships with residents and visitors, including those experiencing challenging situations such as homelessness, mental health issues, addictions, etc. The FCS team will routinely patrol and engage with individuals who frequent the business areas, Saskatoon Transit buses and bus terminals. The FCS team works 7 days a week and operates primarily between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. the following day.
