Downtown Food + Beverage SNAPSHOT

The Saskatoon food scene has long been running under the radar, but times have certainly changed. Local Chefs are being nominated for and winning international acclaim + attention. Publications like Canada’s 100 Best have pointed towards Downtown establishments in both restaurant and bar categories over the past few years (Hearth, The JamesLobby Bar, 13 Pies). Places like Eat North have dedicated features to innovative restaurants and bars within the Downtown district as well (St Tropez + Parlor).

According to Restaurants Canada 2022 Food Service Facts, the share of Canadians who felt comfortable dining indoors at a full-service restaurant jumped from 48% in 2021 to nearly 90% in 2022. When it comes to dining out, consumers seem to have returned to their pre-pandemic habits. This is good news for all, as when a district’s restaurant industry thrives, there are many ripple effects into the retail, events, and entertainment sectors.

Despite media attention towards the industry and Downtowns across the country struggling, Downtown Saskatoon’s Food + Beverage industry is still moving forward despite the struggles of the past number of years. Downtown Saskatoon has seen a number of new ventures open up within 2023 alone, with more in the works/plans still to come. Some notable openings for this year are; Black Rose Whiskey, Chifa Li You, Coaches Corner, Food & Beverage, Frenzy Cafe, Hearth, Macao Imperial Tea, Salt & Pepper Indian Restaurant, Sugar Shack, and Uncle Lui.

The Downtown district currently hosts more than 100 plus options for your food + beverage choices. Everything from take out + grab and go, to quick food + dine in options. With a wide array of flavour options and price points, it is easy to find something for everyone to enjoy. So come and experience What’s Up Downtown.
